Forecasting techniques are used in a wide variety of fields. This course focuses on quantitative, statitistical procedures, primarily regression analysis. This course fulfills requirements for the Applied Mathematics (Statistics track), Finance, and Business Administration majors, and the Applied Statistics minor, and may be used as an elective in the Business Systems and Analytics major and minor. It also counts as a "Writing Enhanced" class toward the university Writing requirement. The course is typically taught every Spring Semester.

Daily Review Assignments

The purpose of daily review assignments is to provide timely review and feedback on the basic course concepts and computational mechanics covered each day in class. This structured regular review facilitates mastery of course material. Review assignments are due at the beginning of the following class. Unless the assignment specifically states otherwise, only hard copy (not electronic submission) is accepted. Review assignments are checked simply for reasonable effort, not accuracy.

Daily review assignments are available from the links below. (Many of the review assignment webpages have links to more detailed solutions, in case you run into difficulty while working on them.)

Homework

In addition to the daily reviews there will be a few larger homework assignments for the semester. These assignments involve deeper analysis than the daily reviews (which focus on basic understanding of course concepts and mechanics). Grades are included in the "participation" portion of the course (along with attendance and the daily reviews). The homework assignments are detailed below.

HW1 - NON-QUANTITATIVE FORECASTING

Extended Homework

Moreover, there are two extended homework assignments which will extend through the duration of the semester. One involves reading and discussing the book The Signal and the Noise, by Nate Silver. The other is a semester-long project assignment. These are detailed below.
