SPTB 345 Statistics have long been present in sports. While Billy Beane and Moneyball made famous the practice of using quantitative tools in service to the game, the practice long antedates this. (The first baseball box score appeared in print in the 1840's — twenty years before the establishment of the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds.) This course examines the use of statistical tools to answer questions in sports, and in sport business. The goal is to enable students to better think analytically about sports-related matters. This course is typically taught every Fall Semester. |
