BSAN 179 — Chess

This is a one-credit, pass/fail class on the game of Chess. No previous knowledge of the game is assumed — we'll start with the very basics. But by the end of the course, participants will be able to play a credible game of chess; they will be able to beat most beginners in casual play, and will be ready to expore rated tournament games. Chess teaches analytic problem-solving and decision-making techniques, and hence is well-suited for academic offering in the university.

The class will meet one day a week, for an extended (75 minute) combination lecture/lab period. In addition, there will be one homework assignment per week. Chess Club meets in the LBC lobby on Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Attendance by class members is not required but is certainly welcomed.
