This website supports the courses of Dr. John Rasp, Associate Professor of Statistics. It is
also intended as a resource for the statistics community at large.
I am teaching three classes during the Spring Semester of 2026:
- One section of STAT 301Q, "Business Statistics."
This is the required introductory statistical methods course for business majors. We will
focus on four key statistical topics: probability, descriptive statistics, basic experimental
design, and statistical model building. The course covers the foundational statistical
inference tools of confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, and regression.
- One section of STAT 440Q, "Forecasting." This is an upper-division elective course
statistical techniques for developing quantitative forecasting models. The primary focus is on
regression analysis. The class is part of the Applied Statistics minor and the Applied Mathematics
(Statistics concentration) major, and it is an elective for Finance and Business Systems and Analytics
majors. It is frequently taken by students in other disciplines, such as economics, who wish to
enhance their quantitative skillset.
- One section of BSAN 179, "Chess."
This is a one-credit class with pass/fail grading. It covers the basic rules, tactics,
and strategies of the game of chess. No previous knowledge of the game is assumed. We
will start with the basics ("Which way does the horsey move?") and proceed from
there. By the end of the class, students should be capable chess players — meaning
that they will be able to win most of their games in casual play.
